Giants Inform S Landon Collins He Won’t Be Franchsied

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Giants have informed S Landon Collins that he wonโ€™t be franchise tagged before today’s deadline, as expected.

Reports have said for the past week that Collins was unlikely to be tagged, so this is just further confirmation that he’ll get to test the open market next week.

Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reported Monday that there is a โ€œsignificant marketโ€ for Collins this offseason.

The franchise tag would have cost the Giants over $11 million fully guaranteed for the 2018 season.

Collins, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Giants back in 2015. He played out the final year of his four-year, $6.12 million rookie contract that included $4.459 million guaranteed and is now in line to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career.

In 2018, Collins appeared in 12 games for the Giants and recorded 96 tackles, a forced fumble and four pass defenses.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.

  1. This Landon Collins situation is by far one of the worst decisions in GMEN history!

My following post will depict just where Gettleman and the GMEN Brass thinking is at.

According to Paul Schwartz’s NY POST article on Tuesday March 05, 2019 titled, “Land’ Of The Free”. In regards to Schwartz’s last 2 small paragraphs of his article.

(Second to last paragraph) Paul Schwartz writes! Gettleman admitted he must decide if it is worth tagging Collins and then dealing with the distraction that comes with an unhappy player separating himself from the team.

(Now the real facts) Collins stated numerous times in numerous live interviews, “that he (meaning Collins) would love to remain a GIANT long term, although if he (meaning Collins) were to be franchised he would have no choice but to play on the tag.”
NFLTR.com had stated this exact comment from Collins in numerous posts by Nate Bouda and his sources as early as last month.

(Last paragraph) Paul Schwartz writes! “I’m not crying about it.” Gettleman said of the impending decision and all the ramifications. “I HAVE FUN WITH IT!.”

(Now the real fact) The GMEN are LOSING a franchise cornerstone and Gettleman chalks it up to “having fun with it.” FUN! There is nothing but a losing culture being created in GMENville. Quality players in Harrison and now Collins are and will be gone. FUN! That is a self absorbed way of doing your job in my opinion.

P.S. The transition tag on Collins would only cost $9.5M for Collins in 2019. Almost $2M cheaper then franchising Collins. Yet! Elisha Manning and his $23M cap hit for 2019 and Elisha’s lack of QB skills are not expendable?!

In all reality, the GMEN Organization’s so called GM Dave Gettleman is a LOSER and that is the reason the Carolina Panthers moved on from him. That’s why Carolina kept their HC Ron Rivera and his staff intact, the only person made expendable was Dave Gettleman. Now that is FUNNY. A new owner retains everyone but the general manager.

I believe Gettleman and his “adult” HC Shurmur are just stop gaps in their positions with the GMEN.
The truth is the Maras and Tisch are huge supporters of former Packer executive Elliot Wolf (the son of Ex-Packer Ron Wolf) who is now with the Browns Organization.
Mr. Wolf and ex-Packer HC Mike McCarthy would be the PERFECT replacements for Gettleman and Shurmur especially with the 2020 NFL DRAFT boasting a bevy of QB talent.
TICK-TOCK goes the clock on Dave Gettleman and Putz Shurmur’s tenures. Now that is FUN!
