Giants Notes: Odell Beckham Jr, Pat Shurmur, Eli Manning

Odell Beckham Jr

Regarding his comments during an interview with ESPN, Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr explained that he was “trying to be a leader” and he “[doesn’t] regret anything that [he] said.

“I don’t regret anything that I said,” Beckham said, via NJ.com. “If it took that for us to come together as a team, like we did today, I can take that every single time. I kind of spoke to the team, just to relay the message that sometimes stuff comes off the wrong way. Words can be portrayed in any kind of light. … The words were between us. The way we responded to what was said, I feel like it would have been too easy after what was said, and what I said to them, to come in here and fight and have heart, energy, grit, whatever words you want to use for that, we had it today. But, we came up short. But, I’m proud of this team. This is the team that we’re going got be for the rest of the season.”

Pat Shurmur

Giants HC Pat Shurmur was reportedly “livid” about the comments made by WR Odell Beckham Jr in his interview with ESPN.

However, Shurmur told reporters after Sunday’s game that he wasn’t going to get into it.

All right, listen, I’m going to answer all the drama questions right now, and I’m going to go back to what I said,” Shurmur said, via NFL.com. “I addressed it with Odell. I addressed it with our team. I publicly declared that I didn’t agree with his comments. And I asked anybody who’s interested that if they wanted a clarification to go to Odell because he’s a big man.

A frustrated Shurmur explained that this is the kind of situation that can galvanize their locker room.

“These are the kind of things, in my opinion, when you have the locker room that we have that will help galvanize it because the locker room took care of it,” Shurmur said. “And that’s all I’m saying on it. Finito, done.

Eli Manning

Giants QB Eli Manning was asked about Beckham’s recent comments, but all he said was that they have a “great relationship” and they are moving on.

I haven’t heard anything,” Manning said, via Pro Football Talk. “Odell and I have a great relationship. Our mindset will be everybody stay focused on beating Philadelphia.”
