Giants & Osi Umenyiora Discussing One-Day Contract For Him To Retire With Team

Dan Graziano and Adam Caplan are discussing signing veteran DE Osi Umenyiora to a one-day contract so that he can retire as a member of the franchise.

Umenyiora, 33, has played out his two-year, $8.5 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons, but hasn’t found any reported interesting since free agency got underway several months ago.

Umenyiora visited with the Jets, but it wasn’t an official meeting.

New York used a second round pick on Umenyiora back in 2003. He spent the first nine years of his NFL career with the Giants before departing in free agency.

In 2014, Umenyiora appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and recorded 12 tackles, 2.5 sacks, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the N0. 22 defensive end in 4-3 defense out of 59 qualifying players, due to him being a decent pass-rusher.
