According to Pat Leonard, the Giants have released both LBs Alec Ogletree and Kareem Martin Wednesday.
Both moves have been expected for some time, as they clear out a chunk of salary cap space and neither player is irreplaceable on the field.
According to Over The Cap, releasing Ogletree will free up $8.25 million of available cap space while creating $3.5 million in dead money.
Releasing Martin will free up $4.8 million of available cap space while creating $1,166,668 in dead money.
Ogletree, 28, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $7.03 million contract and later signed a five-year, $42.29 million contract with the Rams.
The Rams traded Ogletree to the Giants in 2018 for a fourth-round pick and a swap of late-round picks.
In 2019, Ogletree appeared in 13 games for the Giants and recorded 80 tackles, one sack, one interception and six pass defenses.
Martin, 28, is a former third-round draft pick by the Cardinals out of North Carolina back in 2014. He finished out his four-year, $2,843,560 rookie contract and made a base salary of $710,000 in 2017.
Martin signed with the Giants on a three-year, $15 million deal in 2018 after testing unrestricted free agency for the first time in his career. He spent most of 2019 on injured reserve.
In 2019, Martin played in five games for the Giants and recorded six total tackles.
