Giants Releasing CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

Adam Schefter and Jordan Raanan are reporting that the Giants have informed CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie that he is being released.

This move comes just a day after Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reported that the Giants asked Rodgers-Cromartie to take a significant pay cut from the $6.5 million he’s due in 2018.

Reports later mentioned that Rodgers-Cromartie wasn’t interested in accepting the kind of pay reduction New York had proposed, so the news of his release shouldn’t come as a big surprise.

Rodgers-Cromartie, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2008. He’s currently in the final year of his five-year, $35 million contract that included $13.98 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6.48 million for the 2018 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Rodgers-Cromartie would free up $6.5 million of available cap space while creating $2 million in dead money.

In 2017, Rodgers-Cromartie appeared 15 games and recorded 48 tackles, a half sack, no interceptions and pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 58 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
