Gregg Williams Not Considered Front-Runner For Browns’ Job, CLE Will Cast Wide Net

Ian Rapoport reports that Browns interim HC Gregg Williams isn’t considered to be the front-runner for the team’s head-coaching job or anything close to that.

According to Rapoport, Williams will get an interview for the position, but the Browns are expected to cast a wide net and made no mandate to keep their coordinators, despite the team’s success since replacing Hue Jackson.

Even if the Browns don’t keep OC Freddie Kitchens, Rapoport says he’s earned the right to be a coordinator somewhere.

Rapoport lists Mike McCarthy, Iowa State HC Matt Campbell, Patriots DC Brian Flores, Patriots OC Josh McDaniels and Colts DC Matt Eberflus as names to watch for the Browns’ job.

Williams, 60, has worked for several NFL teams over the course of his career including the Oilers/Titans, Bills, Redskins, Jaguars, Saints, and Rams before the Browns hired him as their defensive coordinator for the 2017 season.

After the Browns fired Hue Jackson, Williams was elevated to interim head coach.

Under Williams, the Browns have gone 5-2 this season.

We’ll have more regarding the Browns as the news is available.
