Half Dozen Teams Already Showing Interest In Justin Houston, Expected To Get Around $15M Per Year

According to Jason La Canfora, there are a half dozen teams or so already showing interest in veteran OLB Justin Houston, who was just recently released by the Chiefs.

La Canfora expects Houston to end up making the $15 million per year he was set to earn in 2019 before Kansas City cut him on Sunday.

La Canfora explains that with so many teams having a lot of cap space and desperate for pass-rush help, Houston is likely to be a big beneficiary.

It’s worth mentioning that signing him to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Houston, 30, is a former third-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2011. He was entering the fifth year of his six-year, $101 million contract that included $52.5 million guaranteed and set to make base salaries of $15.25 million and $17 million over the next two years when the Chiefs released him.

In 2018, Houston appeared in 12 games for the Chiefs and recorded 37 tackles, nine sacks, an interception, five forced fumbles and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 14 edge rusher out of 103 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
