Hamilton Tiger-Cats Trade Johnny Manziel To Montreal Alouettes

The Montreal Alouettes announced Sunday that they’ve traded DE Jamaal Westerman, WR Chris Williams and two first-round picks in 2020 and 2021 to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for QB Johnny Manziel,ย OLย Tony Washingtonย and OL Landon Rice.

Manziel will beย reunited with HC Mike Sherman, who recruited him to Texas A&M back in 2012.

This season, Manziel has been limited to appearing in two preseason games for theย Tiger-Cats andย completed 21 of his 31 passes (67.7%) to go along with a touchdown. He also rushed for 19 yards.

Theย Tiger-Cats signed Manziel to aย two-year contractย worth a base value of $122,000 and includes a $10,000 signing bonus for the 2018 season this past May. The deal includesย $18,000 housing stipend, $10,000 bonuses for being active for 6, 10 and 14 games and another $120,000 if he plays half of the team’s snaps.

However, Manziel has been relegated to being a backup for the Tiger-Cats this season, so it will be interesting to see if this opens up some playing time for him at some point.

Manziel, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Browns back in 2014. He wasย in the second year of his four-year, $8,247,250 rookie contract when the Browns cut him loose at the start of the 2016 league year.

Manzielย received a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on recreational drug and wound up sitting out the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

In 2015, Manziel appeared in nineย games and thrown for 1,500ย yards while completing 57.8 percent of his passes to go along with sevenย touchdowns and fiveย interceptions. Manziel also ran for 230 yards.ย Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 31 quarterback out of 36 qualifying players that year.
