Hue Jackson Could Take Over As Bengals’ Defensive Play-Caller In Few Weeks

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that Hue Jackson has been spending all of his time working with the Bengals’ defense and it’s possible that he could end up calling plays for the defensive unit in a few weeks.

For the time being, Marvin Lewis will be the Bengals’ defensive play-caller.

According to Tom Pelissero, Lewis has been leading the defensive meetings, but Jackson is there echoing the message and bringing energy to the room. Pelissero adds that the Bengals love Jackson.

As for the decision to fire DC Teryl Austin last week, Pelissero spoke to veteran DE Carlos Dunlap, who said the issues were beyond just Austin and included players and scheme.

There has been buzz since the Bengals brought Jackson back to Cincinnati that he could take over as the team’s head coach at some point, especially if Lewis transitions to a role in the front office, which was something that came up last year.

We’ll have more regarding the Bengals and Jackson as the news is available.
