According to Ian Rapoport, the Jaguars do not have a trade in the works for CB Jalen Ramsey, despite the fact that he requested a trade out of Jacksonville.
Rapoport mentions that the longer this goes on, the more likely it is Ramsey remains in Jacksonville. Even so, Rapoport says that Ramseyโs trade request still stands.
Mike Garafolo adds that the Jaguars’ asking price is considered “too high” right now and it doesn’t appear as though any team is willing to match it at this point. Beyond that, Garafolo doesn’t expect the Jaguars move off of their current demands for Ramsey.
Earlier in the week, Ian Rapoport reported Jaguars owner Shad Khan is comfortable signing CB Ramsey to an extension that would make him the highest-paid player at his position.
“Also worth noting that owner Shad Khan loves Ramsey, would be willing, from what I understand, to pay him and make him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL as soon as he possibly can,” Rapoport said. “There is a lot of love here. So, for the Jacksonville Jaguars to part with Ramsey they’re going to have to be convinced, overwhelmed that it’s the right move.”
According to Rapoport, Ramsey has far more issues with Tom Coughlin than HC Doug Marrone.
Ramsey explained what led to him requesting a trade earlier this week during an interview with Uninterrupted.
“Some disrespectful things were said on their end that made me definitely walk out and call my agent as soon as I walked out, and I told him, I said, ‘It’s time; my time is up here in Jacksonville. I want to ask for a trade,’” Ramsey said. “I was truly at peace. I wasn’t in a mindset of making a decision while I was angry; I was completely calm. I still stand by my decision to ask for a trade.”
“Requesting the trade was something that’s been building over a little bit of time,” Ramsey said. “It has nothing to do with my teammates here — I love my teammates here. It has nothing to do with the city — I love the city here. Still doing my charity work here, still out with the fans, signing autographs, taking pictures, whatever. I love the city here, I love my teammates, but it’s more so with the front office and the organization.”
On Thursday, Josina Anderson reported that six teams including the Chiefs, Ravens, Vikings, Raiders, Eagles and Seahawks have made “substantive” inquiries regarding Ramsey.
For what it’s worth, Ramsey said in an interview last month that his two ideal teams to play for would be either the Titans or the Raiders once they move to Las Vegas.
Ramsey, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He signed a four-year, $23.35 million contract and is set to make a base salary of $3.63 million in 2019.
The Jaguars picked up Ramsey’ fifth-year option that will cost them around $13 million for the 2020 season and will become fully guaranteed on the first day of 2020 league year.
In 2019, Ramsey has appeared in three games for the Jaguars and recorded 18 tackles,a forced fumble and one pass defense.
We’ll have more regarding Ramsey as the news is available.
