Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Jaguars have officially franchised DE Yannick Ngakoue on Friday.
The Jaguars have already confirmed the news.
The franchise tag for defensive ends is projected to cost around $17.9 million fully guaranteed for the 2020 season, but won’t prevent the two parties from negotiating a long-term extension in the coming months.
Jacksonville has made it clear that they planned to tag Ngakoue, even though he has said publicly that he plans to move on.
Some have mentioned Ngakoue as a potential tag-and-trade candidate this offseason, so that’s something to keep an eye on moving forward.
Ngakoue, 24, is a former third-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He played out the final year of his four-year, $3.48 million contract and made a base salary of $834,269 for the 2019 season.
Ngakoue will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason for the first time in his NFL career.
In 2019, Ngakoue appeared in 15 games for the Jaguars and recorded 41 tackles, eight sacks, an interception, a defensive touchdown, four forced fumbles, a recovery and six passes defended.
We had him included in our Top 100 – 2020 Free Agents list.
