Jaguars Hiring Jay Gruden As Offensive Coordinator

Update:

The Jaguars announced Wednesday that they’ve officially hired Jay Gruden as their offensive coordinator.

Ian Rapoport reports that the Jaguars are planning to hire former Redskins HC Jay Gruden as their next offensive coordinator.

Gruden was scheduled to interview for their vacancy at offensive coordinator earlier this week, so it’s clear that Jacksonville is interested in quickly adding him to their coaching staff.

Gruden has been out of football since being fired by Washington during the middle of the 2019 season.

Mike Garafolo reported that Gruden told him that he is “itching” to get back to work and would “like to have an office to go to.” (NFLTR)

Jacksonville has an opening after moving on from OC John DeFilippo last week. The Jaguars have also interviewed Scott Linehan and Ben McAdoo

Gruden, 52, began his NFL coaching career with the Buccaneers as an offensive assistant. He spent seven years in the position before departing for a job with the Florida Tuskers.

Gruden returned to the NFL as the Bengals offensive coordinator in 2011 before he was hired as the Redskins coach for the 2014 season. Washington fired him in October.

During his five years in Washington, Gruden led them to a record of 35-49-1, which includes one playoff appearance back in 2015.
