Jaguars Sign Three, Cut OL Avery Gennesy


The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed three players to contracts on Monday including LB Manase Hungalu, TE Zach Conque and OL Brandon Smith, according to Mike Kaye.

The Jaguars also placed OL Avery Gennesy on waivers in a corresponding move.

Hungalu wound up going undrafted out of Oregon State a few weeks ago before securing a tryout with the Jaguars this past weekend. He was a 2017 All-Pac 12 honorable mention last year.

During his college career, at Oregon State, Hungalu recorded 223 tackles, 11.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, four interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, four fumble recoveries and eight pass defenses over the course of three seasons and 33 games played.

Conque, 24, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Stephen F. Austin last year. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Texans cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

Conque later signed on to the Jets’ practice squad before releasing him in December.

During his college career between Texans-San Antonio and Stephen F. Austin, Conque played quarterback and threw for 6,867 yards while completing 57.3 percent of his passes to go along with 46 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. he also rushed for 1,605 yards and 34 touchdowns over the course of 36 games.
