Jaguars Void RB Leonard Fournette’s Guaranteed Money In Rookie Deal

Update:

On Monday, Jaguars HC Doug Marrone confirmed the report that they removed the guarantees included in RB Leonard Fournette’s contract, per Michael DiRocco.

Mark Long of the Associated Press reports that the Jaguars have notified RB Leonard Fournette that his suspension from last month voided the remaining guarantees in his four-year rookie contract.

According to Long, the Jaguars informed of the news a few weeks ago. However, Fournette could challenge the decision.

Fournette’s future in Jacksonville appears to be in question after a turbulent 2018 season.

Jaguars executive VP Tom Coughlin released a statement after Week 17’s game calling out Fournette and RB T.J. Yeldon for being disengaged from their teammates while sitting on the bench.

Fournette was set to make $7.1 million fully guaranteed over the final two years of his rookie contract. However, unless he wins an appeal, the Jaguars could cut or trade him without cap ramifications.

Fournette, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2017. He’s currently in the second year of his four-year, $27.15 million contract that’s fully guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $2.93 million for the 2019 season.

The contract includes a fifth-year option for the Jaguars to pick up in 2020.

In 2018, Fournette has appeared in eight games and rushed for 439 yards on 133 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 22 receptions for 185 yards receiving and five total touchdowns.

  1. I said it three years ago about Leonard Fournette. This guy is and was OVERHYPED even in college. Derrius Guice is the far better all around back. Fournette is nothing but another Trent Richardson. BELIEVE IT! I doubt Fournette will even be a Jaguar next year and include his OVERHYPED BUST of a teammate TJ Yeldon in that category as well. What a waste of time, money and draft picks on these two.
