Jaguars GM David Caldwell told reporters on Tuesday that they would like to re-sign DEย Tyson Alualu in the coming weeks and have communicated as much to his agent, per Ryan O’Halloran.
However,ย Caldwell added that heย isn’t sure if they will be able to get a deal in placeย before the start of free agency on March 10.
Jacksonville expects to meet with the agents for free agentsย Alualu, CB Alan Ball, LBย J.T. Thomas,ย and WR Cecil Shortsย at the Scouting Combine this week.
Alualu, 27, was a surprising selectionย for the Jaguars back in 2010 when they used the No. 10 overall pick on him coming out ofย California.
Alualu has proven to be very durable over the course of his five-year career as he’s yet to miss a single game.
In 2014, he recorded 30 tackles and two sacks over the course of 16 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 50 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players, which is due in large part to a poor rating as a pass rusher.
