Jets Announce That WR Santonio Holmes Has Been Released

The New York Jets announced Monday that veteran WR Santonio Holmes has been released.

This move comes with little surprise given that we have been talking about Holmes being a cap casualty for over a year now.

Holmes, 29, still had two years remaining on his five-year, $45.25 million contract that included $24 million guaranteed. He would have made a base salary of $8.25 million for the 2014 season to go along with a $1 million roster bonus and a cap figure of $10.75 million.

  • Releasing him frees up $8.25 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com.

Last year, Holmes caught 23 passes for 456 yards receiving and a touchdown over the course of 11 games.
