Jets Pick Up DE Leonard Williams’ Fifth-Year Option

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets will pick up DE Leonard Williams fifth-year option for the 2019 season before the upcoming deadline.

Mehta adds that the Jets would like to get a long0term extension in place for Williams, so it’s possible he may not play out the 2019 season under the option.

Williams, 23, is a former No. 6 overall pick by the Jets in the 20115 NFL Draft. He is entering the final year of a four-year, $18.6 million rookie contract and is set to earn a base salary of $2,975,574 in 2018.

In 2017, Williams appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and recorded 47 total tackles, two sacks, one interception, and one pass defense. Pro Football Focus rated him as the No. 21 overall interior defender out of 122 players.
