Jets Sign DE/OLB Quanterus Smith To PS, Promote OT Wesley Johnson

The New York Jets announced Wednesday that they’ve signed DE/OLB Quanterus Smith to their practice squad and promoted  OT Wesley Johnson.

Smith, 25, is a former fifth-round pick of the Broncos back in 2013 out of Western Kentucky. He was unfortunately cut loose by the Broncos with a failed physical designation days before this year’s NFL Draft.

The Jets recently brought him in for a workout, but they elected to not sign him to a contract at the time.

In 2014, Smith appeared in 15 games for the Broncos, but recorded just 11 tackles and two pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 51 defensive end in a 4-3 system out of 59 qualifying players.
