Jets Worked Out S Elijah Shumate

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the Jets worked out free agent S Elijah Shumate on Tuesday.

This is the second reported tryout for Shumate since he became available after he met with the Raiders last week.

Shumate, 22, wound up signing on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame back in May. He was in the first year of his three-year, $1.62 million rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $450,000 for the 2016 season when the Bucs waived him with an injury designation.

Shumate later cleared waivers and reverted to their injured reserve list before being cut loose with an injury settlement a few weeks ago.

During his college career, Shumate recorded 168 tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery, two interceptions and 10 pass defenses.
