Jim Caldwell Expected To Join Brian Flores’ Dolphins Staff

Albert Breer of The MMQB.com reports that former Colts and Lions HC Jim Caldwell is expected to be part of Brian Flores’ staff in Miami once he’s officially hired as the Dolphins’ next head coach.

Breer adds that Caldwell may not be the team’s offensive coordinator, as they may try to bring in a young coordinator in addition to Caldwell, who could serve as the team’s associate head coach.

On Sunday, Mike Reiss of ESPN mentioned that Caldwell could be an offensive coordinator candidate for Flores, given that there were ties to the two dating back to last year.

Cardwell has interviewed with the Jets, Packers, Browns and Cardinals for their head-coaching jobs in recent weeks and came up as a possible candidate for the Buccaneers.

Caldwell, 63, began his head coaching career with the Colts back in 2009 after taking over for Tony Dungy. He spent three years in charge of Indianapolis before he was fired after the 2011 season.

After a stint with the Ravens as their offensive coordinator, the Lions hired him as their head coach in 2015. Detroit made the decision to move on from Caldwell this past January.

During his seven years as a head coach for the Colts and Lions, Caldwell led them to a record of 62-50 (55.4 percent) which includes four playoff appearances and one trip to the AFC Championship game.
