Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports that linebackerย Joey Porterย has retired from football. The 13-year veteranย plans to retire as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
โThatโs where I started at,โ Porter said, ย โItโll be an honor to go out there and retire as a Steeler. Started there, end there. Thirteen years. I never thought Iโd play that long when I first started.โ
As for what led to the decision, Porter said it was because of health, and didnโt felt like himself while playing with the Cardinals.
โNot being able to get 100 percent healthy to play at the level I am accustomed to playing at,โ Porter said, telling about the reason. โThe last two years, I tried to play and I wasnโt out there as healthy as Iโve been in the past. This year, I knew my knee wasnโt getting any better as far as this season.”
The four-time Pro Bowler finishes with 170 starts, 503 tackles and 98 sacks. He is 35 years old and most recently played for the Cardinals.
