John Beck As Redskins Starting QB?

Last weeks reports suggested that the Washington Redskins were prepared to move forward with John Beck as their quarterback and from his recent comments, Beck appears to be thankful that Donovan McNabb is no longer in the mix for the job.

I have to say I’m glad it happened,” Beck said on SiriusXM’s NFL Radio, via CSNWashington.com. “If I want my opportunity, I have to have stuff like this happen so I can get an opportunity. If McNabb stays as starter of the Washington Redskins, I remain a backup, and I want to be a starter. So, I have to hope for things like this to happen.

I believe I’m a starter in the NFL,” added Beck.

Even if the Redskins feel that Beck can be a  productive quarterback for them next season, he is not going to be their longterm solution to the most important position on the field. Considering that Shanahan is coming off of a very unproductive first year in Washington, he’s going to have to show that team is seriously improving on both sides of the ball so there will be a lot of pressure on both him and John Beck. Then again, this could be a great strategy to land Andrew Luck.
