Josh McCown Still Considered Brownsโ€™ Starting QB, CLE Impressed With Johnny Manziel

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media mentions that itโ€™s his understanding that Josh McCown is still considered the teamโ€™s starting quarterback, even though theyโ€™re going with Johnny Manziel in Week 2.

Of course, McCown was not cleared medically following a concussion he sustained during the season-opener against the Jets, which is why Manziel is getting the start today.

Rapoport adds that the Browns have been impressed with Manziel and how heโ€™s turned a corner, but the job still belong to McCown for now.

McCownโ€™s concussions symptoms were considered minor on Sunday, but they elected to pull him from the game anyway. McCown displayed minor symptoms all week, but still couldnโ€™t gain clearance.

The Browns will have Austin Davis as their backup on Sunday.

McCown, 36, signed a three-year, $14 million contract that included $6.25 million guaranteed with the Browns back in February. Heโ€™ll make a base salary of $2.25 million in 2015 to go along with $4.375 million and $3.625 million in the final two years of the deal.
