Lance Moore Unlikely To Be Back In New Orleans Next Season?

Katherine Terrell of the New Orleans Times-Picayune breaks down the Saints receiver position as they prepare for the offseason.

According to Terrell, WR Lance Moore’sfuture with the Saints could be in question.”

Terrell points to Moore’s $5.1 million salary cap for the 2014 season and the fact that he only played half of the Saints offensive snaps just four times over the course of 18 games as the main reasons why he could be on the chopping block.

Moore, 30, signed a five-year contract worth $20 million that included $7 million guaranteed two years ago. Last season, Moore caught 65 passes for 1,041 and six touchdowns, but his production dropped off considerably this year, which resulted in rookie Kenny Stills nearly doubling his number of snaps played.

The New Orleans Saints are projected to be over the cap by close to $17 million next season, which means they will need to shed a lot of salary in the coming weeks in order to address free agents like TE Jimmy Graham and LT Zach Strief.

Other Saints Notes:

  • Saints could move on without WR Robert Meachem, as his contract is set to expire.
  • There are questions regarding second-year WR Nick Toon given that he was inactive for the final eight games of the season.
  • Terrell believes WR Joe Morgan could go into training camp fighting for a roster spot.
