Ralph Vacchiano reports that Landon Collins hasn’t cleaned out his locker as previously reported and the Giants haven’t made any decision on whether to franchise him at this time.
A separate source tells Vacchiano that there’s “nothing new” regarding Collins’ status with the team. Vacchiano adds that there hasn’t been any progress on a long-term deal.
Josina Anderson stands by her earlier report and says Collins could return to grab whatever is left over in his locker.
Josina Anderson of ESPN reports that Giants S Landon Collins cleaned out his locker on Wednesday and his goodbyes to teammates, coaches and trainers.
Anderson adds that it doesnโt seem like Collins expects to be a Giant for much longer.
The Giants could still use their franchise tag on him before the March 5 deadline to ensure he remains in New York, but that would cost them over $11 million fully guaranteed.
On Tuesday, Anderson reported that the Giants and Collins are not in โactive negotiationsโ on a long-term deal at this time.
Last month, Collins said he’s hoping they can get a long-term agreement in place this offseason and avoid him playing under the franchise tag
โWould I play on it? Iโve got no choice,” Collins said when asked about playing under the franchise tag, via NJ.com. “But itโs not a big concern of mine. I know what Iโm capable of. Hopefully we work something out before that. If not, franchise it is. Iโve just got to continue proving myself.โ
Collins, 24, is a former second-round pick of the Giants back in 2015. He is in the final year of his four-year, $6.12 million rookie contract that included $4.459 million guaranteed and stands to make a base salary of $1,269,621 for the 2018 season.
In 2018, Collins appeared in 12 games for the Giants and recorded 96 tackles, a forced fumble and four pass defenses.

If this is true and Collins has cleaned out his locker and made his farewells to teammates, coaches and others, this is a huge loss for the GMEN. I get that Collins is part of the Jerry Reese Regime draft picks, but Collins is not expendable in my opinion.
Collins is only 24 and a multi-time Pro Bowler and 2 years ago was considered for NFL DPOY. A GMEN franchise tag cost for 2019 on Collins would only be between $11-12M. What gives? Considering there are other GMEN that definitely are not worth their salaries, for example Solder, Vernon, Jenkins and Beckham (OBJ has already missed 21 games in 5 years with constant leg problems).
If Gettleman and his entourage just let Collins walk and sign elsewhere. And reap a comp pick as consolation for Collins. Gettleman should be FIRED instantly.
I mentioned this issue with Gettleman last year. Gettleman’s short time as GMEN GM is becoming a huge mistake by Mara and Tisch. The free agent signings of Solder, Stewart, Barwin and Omameh proved horrendous. Although greatly talented Barkley should not have been the pick at #2 in the 2018 Draft. Nelson, Darnold or Chubb were a greater need pick. Especially with loads of RB talent in last year’s Draft. Gettleman picks Shurmur as the new HC and Shula as the new OC. Both of these guys have completely different offensive philosophies. These two together doesn’t make sense!
Now! Collins is possibly gone according to this report. Ask Bill Parcells his opinion on Landon Collins. I bet you anything on this planet, Parcells is shaking and scratching his noggin right now.
This GMEN rebuild is a disaster and remember you heard it here first.
