Latest On Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey

Adam Schefter reports that the Jaguars are not interested in trading CB Jalen Ramsey, despite his recent request, or he would have already been dealt to a new team by now.

According to Schefter, Ramsey still is adamant that he wants to be traded and this situation is setting up for a potential showdown between the two parties to see which side gets what they’re looking for.

Schefter says that once the Jaguars return to practice Monday, Ramsey could try to force the team’s hand by not participating.

Meanwhile, Jason La Canfora reports that the Chiefs are considered the “favorites” to eventually trade for Ramsey.

According to La Canfora says that Kansas City has identified the secondary as their area of concern and rival front offices anticipate they make a “strong push” to land him.

As of now, La Canfora mentions that the Jaguars are looking for first-round picks in return for Ramsey. However, GMs he’s spoken to tell La Canfora they think a trade will eventually get done for a first- and second-round picks along with a young player.

The Chiefs were reportedly among the teams in the mix for Minkah Fitzpatrick before he was set to the Steelers. La Canfora mentions that Kansas City was willing to trade a first-round pick for Fitzpatrick, but wanted Miami wanted another pick included in the deal.

La Canfora adds that the Eagles, Seahawks and Ravens are other teams monitoring the Ramsey situation.

While there has been some recent about the Jaguars hoping to keep Ramsey and sign him to an extension, La Canfora says there’s a “strong sense” around the NFL that an extension there is not in the cards. Per La Canfora, Jaguars president Tom Coughlin is trying to clean up the culture in a locker room and Ramsey was seen as being at the forefront of those issues, facing team sanctions on numerous occasions.

La Canfora adds that Jacksonville is under no pressure to get a trade in place for Ramsey before the trade deadline in October, so this situation could take some time to get resolved.

Last night, Ian Rapoport reported that the Jaguars do not have a trade in the works for Ramsey, despite the fact that he requested a trade out of Jacksonville. Rapoport mentions that the longer this goes on, the more likely it is Ramsey remains in Jacksonville. Even so, Rapoport says that Ramsey’s trade request still stands.

Mike Garafolo added that the Jaguars’ asking price is considered “too high” right now and it doesn’t appear as though any team is willing to match it at this point. Beyond that, Garafolo doesn’t expect the Jaguars move off of their current demands for Ramsey.

Ramsey, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2016. He signed a four-year, $23.35 million contract and is set to make a base salary of $3.63 million in 2019.

The Jaguars picked up Ramsey’ fifth-year option that will cost them around $13 million for the 2020 season and will become fully guaranteed on the first day of 2020 league year.

In 2019, Ramsey has appeared in three games for the Jaguars and recorded 18 tackles,a forced fumble and one pass defense.

We’ll have more regarding Ramsey as the news is available.
