Adam Caplan reports that the Lions are signing former Eagles OL Halapoulivaati Vaitai to a five-year, $50 million contract on Monday.
Caplan says Vaitai will take over as the Lions new right tackle, replacing Rick Wagner, who was released last week.
Reports had said that Vaitai was likely to get between $8-$12 million per year and it looks like he split the difference in this deal with the Lions.
Vaitai, 26, was drafted by the Eagles in the fifth round out of TCU in 2016. He signed a four-year deal worth $2.56 million and made a base salary of $720,000 for the 2019 season.
In 2019, Vaitai played in all 16 games for the Eagles and made three starts. He was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 22 offensive tackle out of 81 qualifying players.
We had Vaitai listed in our Top 100 2020 Free Agents list.
