Lions Worked Out Six Free Agents

According to Howard Balzer, the Detroit Lions brought in six free agents for workouts this week including DL Ziggy Hood.

The full list of tryouts for the Lions includes:

  1. DT Josh Banks
  2. RB Joel Bouagnon
  3. RB Gerald Holmes
  4. RB Jalen Simmons
  5. DE Ziggy Hood
  6. DE Anthony Lanier

Of this group, the Lions signed Bouagnon to their practice squad.

Hood, 31, is a former first-round pick of the Steelers back in 2009. He played out his rookie contract with the Steelers before signing a four-year agreement with the Jaguars in March of 2015.

Hood lasted over a year and a half in Jacksonville before signing on with the Bears during the 2015 season.

After the year was out, the Redskins signed Hood to a future/reserve contract and later re-signed him to a two-year, $2.7 million contract last year. However, Washington elected to cut him loose last week.

In 2018, Hood has appeared in five games for the Redskins and recorded three tackles and no sacks.

Lanier, 25, wound up signing on with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama A&M back in 2016. He was waived with an injury designation coming out of the preseason and he later reverted to the team’s injured reserve list.

Washington waived Lanier from injured reserve with an injury settlement. Since becoming a free agent, he worked out for the Dolphins but left Miami without a contract.

In 2017, Lanie appeared in 11 games and recorded 14 tackles, five sacks, a forced fumble, a recovery and six pass defenses.
