Report: Mario Williams Not In Play For Giants

Jordan Raanan of NJ.com, citing person with knowledge of the situation, reports that free agent DE Mario Williams is not in play for the Giants, despite reports that he could visit with the team.

  • Raanan adds that Williams can be crossed off as a potential target for the Giants.

Williams has already visited with the Dolphins, and reportedly has interest from the Jaguars as well, but it sounds like the Giants are considering different options at defensive end.

Dan Graziano of ESPNย reported thatย that the Giants haveย expressed some interest inย Charles Johnson,ย William Hayes, Derrick Shelby and Adrian Clayborn.

Beyond that,ย New York is reportedly weighing the idea of making an offer to Dolphins transition player Olivier Vernon.

Williams, 30, wasย in the fourth year of his six-year, $96 million contractย when he was released earlier in the week in a move thatย freed up $12.9 million in cap space for the Bills.

In 2015, Williams appeared in 14 games and recorded 17 tackles and fourย sacks for the Bills. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 47ย defensive end in a 4-3 defense out of 51 qualifying players.

We haveย him featuredย in ourย Top 100 – 2016 Free Agents list.
