Mike Mularkey Announces Retirement

Current Falcons TE coach Mike Mularkey — a long-time NFL coaching veteran — announced on Wednesday he is retiring from the NFL.

“I’ve been blessed to do this for a long time and have a lot of great memories from the game I love,” Mularkey said. “I’ve also missed a lot of time with my family who I love and who has supported me so much throughout my career. I am looking forward to spending even more time with them and making even more memories.”

Mularkey, 58, began his NFL coaching career with the Buccaneers in 1994 as their tight ends coach. Since then, Mularkey has worked for a number of NFL teams including the Steelers, Bills, Dolphins, Falcons and Jaguars before he joined the Titans back in 2014.

Mularkey was elevated to interim head coach in 2015 and held onto the job through the 2017 season before being let go. He spent the 2019 season as the Falcons tight ends coach.

As a head coach for the Bills, Jaguars and Titans, Mularkey assembled a career record of 36-53 (40.4 percent) in a combined six seasons, with one playoff appearance.

Mularkey also played in the NFL for nine seasons as a tight end with the Vikings and Steelers. He caught 102 passes for 1,222 yards and nine touchdowns in his playing career.
