NFL.com’s Jason La Canfora reports that some of the Washington Redskins team officials are “dismayed” with head coach Mike Shanahan‘s “unwavering” support of John Beck as the teams starting quarterback.
“He is set on Beck,” said one source. “That’s his guy. He isn’t just saying it for the media or to blow smoke. He’s serious as hell about it.”
I honestly believed that the Shanahan was just trying to confuse teams about his interest in some of the rookie quarterbacks that were available in this years draft but that proved to not be the case. It’s hard to imagine that Beck is going to lead them to the playoffs but Shanahan’s appears to be all in. If Shanahan is truly concerned about his future with the team it would make sense for him to go with a more proven player and show that the team is improving enough to keep him around for another year but then again it’s been impossible to understanding Shanahan’s decision making over the course of his career.
