Mike Wallace Now Expected To Stay In Pittsburgh

Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com writes that Steelers WR Mike Wallace will not be leaving Pittsburgh for another team in the months to come.

The team has said that Wallace remains their top priority and have since restructured a number of contract to free up some much needed cap space.

Considering that Wallace is a restricted free agent, any team that’s interested in signing him away from Pittsburgh would have to be willing to part with a first-round draft pick and negotiate new contract with him. Given that rookie contracts are now based on where you were taken in the draft, they have much more value than they did before and, on top of that, it gives Wallace and his representation a lot of leverage in the negotiations seeing as you’ve already invested a first-round pick in the deal.

Pittsburgh will have an opportunity to make the offer so it’s really a huge gamble to pursue a deep threat that’s going to cost this much, even if he’s one of the best the game has to offer.
