Mutual Interest Between Rams & G Rodger Saffold In New Deal

According to Lindsey Thiry of ESPN, the Rams and veteran G Rodger Saffold have mutual interest in him returning to Los Angeles next year.

Saffold implied he’d be open to taking a bit of a discount to re-sign with the Rams next year.

“You want to be paid fairly,” Saffold said. “But I think the culture and the team that I’m around is worth just as much as the extra money that I could get from going somewhere else.

“That’s just with getting older and understanding what I’m around. I want to be successful for years to come, and I think in order to do that — I’ve been with this team for so long already, it’s like why start changing now that it’s good.”

Saffold is in line to be one of the top offensive linemen available in next year’s free agent and should be able to command a decent salary on the open market.

Saffold, 30, is a former second0round pick of the Rams back in 2010. He played out his rookie contract with the Rams before agreeing to a five-year, $42.5 million contract with the Raiders back in 2014.

However, the Raiders failed Saffold on a physical and returned to the Rams on five-year, $31.347 million contract that included $19.5 million guaranteed.

Saffold will be an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

In 2018, Saffold has appeared in 14 games for the Rams.
