NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants

Cowboys

The Cowboys have a long line of young players in line for contract extensions this year and next year. While Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith may be near the back of the line because of his status as a restricted free agent, he’s not worried about his future in Dallas.

“When it’s time for Jerry to cut the check, it will happen,” Smith said via SiriusXM NFL Radio. “I just have to embrace where I’m at. I’m blessed for sure.”

Eagles

Eagles LB Nigel Bradham‘s long-term future in Philadelphia is a question mark, as the veteran is due a $9 million team option for the 2020 season. But Bradham is set to play a key role for the Eagles in the 2019 season as their most experienced returning linebacker.

“We’re used to him talking out there,” Eagles DE Brandon Graham said via NJ.com’s Zack Rosenblatt. “I be talking, he be talking, he bring the energy every game on every play. With guys like that you got to hold on to them because sometimes you might be in that funk and need somebody to get you going and he’s that guy.”

  • NJ.com’s Mike Kaye doesn’t expect the Eagles to re-sign QB Nate Sudfeld after the 2019 season unless there’s a major injury to QB Carson Wentz
  • Sudfeld is playing out the year on a restricted free agent tender and appears to have a lock on the backup quarterback position for the Eagles.

Giants

While many have rushed to write Giants QB Eli Manning‘s career obituary, particularly after New York drafted QB Daniel Jones No. 6 overall, Manning says he isn’t planning to retire soon.

“I’m not rushing into retirement, and Peyton’s not telling me to rush into it,” Manning said via Nola.com’s Rod Walker. “I still love being around the guys and the teammates and playing this game. I’m going to play it for as long as I think I can hang with these guys.”
