NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins

The Cowboys are enjoying have C Travis Frederick back with the team after he missed 2018 while dealing with Guillain-Barré Syndrome, an autoimmune disease that attack the nervous system.

“It’s just great to have him working out again,” G Zack Martin said via David Helman of the team website. “Last year, I think it was well documented, he did a great job of being kind of another coach. But to see him back out there working out, you can definitely see a little bounce in his step.”

  • With their first pick not coming until No. 58 this year, Cowboys VP Stephen Jones all but ruled out trading away their first-round pick for the second year in a row: “It took an act of congress to give up a first-round pick. We know how valuable those are. It took a lot of discussion, a lot of homework, a lot of really getting your hands around to give up your first round pick. It’s something you don’t like to be without.” (Todd Archer)
  • Jones added the Cowboys would like to find a quality backup running back behind Ezekiel Elliott: “You look at your situation and you see how much we rely on Zeke, in terms of the number of touches he gets…and what that would do to your team if you didn’t have Zeke.” (Jon Machota)

  • Eagles GM Howie Roseman confirmed they’re working on an extension for QB Carson Wentz: “We want Carson on this team long-term.” (Zack Rosenblatt)
  • Eagles DT Fletcher Cox said “everything is going good” following a procedure done on his foot which he injured late last season. (Rosenblatt)

Redskins HC Jay Gruden said WR Paul Richardson was never fully healthy in 2018.

“I think he showed glimpses in training camp of ‘wow, this guy can run,’” Gruden said via NBC Sports’ J.P. Finlay. “He’s got great hands, but I think he was beat up a little bit. The shoulder was giving him more problems than he would probably want to say and he’ll probably get mad at me for saying that but I do want to see that on tape again. And I know he’s got it in him, I know he wants that back and he’s going to ask for a lot more opportunities to make plays on the ball this year and he will get it if he’s healthy.”

Gruden added Richardson likely wouldn’t do much during OTAs.
