NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Redskins

Cowboys

Cowboys DE Demarcus Lawrence said at SportsCon 2019 that he hopes to beat Broncos OLB Von Miller in breaking Michael Strahan‘s single-season sacks record of 22.5.

My goal is to be the best that’s ever played this game,” Lawrence said, via ProFootballTalk. “For sure, I want to beat that sack record, make it my own, so he [Von Miller] can talk about beating my record. I’m going to just wait until I get to the season and then worry about sacks.

Eagles

The Eagles are excited to have S Rodney McLeod back as a stabilizing force in their secondary. McLeod is still working his way back from an ACL tear last season and was only able to participate during warmups during OTA’s, but he plans to be ready for training camp.

“I came a long way,” McLeod said via NJ.com’s Zack Rosenblatt. “To go from being injured and having the game taken away from you for that long and now be able to go back out there, and just participate in individual drills, get back out there with the guys, it’s a great feeling.”

Redskins

Redskins RB Derrius Guice has had some health issue in his short time in the NFL. A torn ACL ended his rookie year before the end of his first preseason game, and the road back hasn’t been smooth with three surgeries, an infection and now a hamstring tweak that reportedly will sideline him to start training camp. Guice says there’s “no reason” to freak out about his health, however.

“I don’t listen to the noise. I know what’s going on with me,” Guice tweeted.

  • NBC Sports’ JP Finlay believes it’s unlikely fourth-round RB Bryce Love opens training camp on the active roster as he recovers from an ACL tear.
  • Finlay says a source called Love’s ACL tear “clean” and mentions there’s a chance he could contribute in the back half of 2019.
