NFC East Notes: Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Eagles

  • Les Bowen mentions that the Eagles trading CB Ronald Darby for a draft pick before April 26 seemed imminent before CB Daryl Worley‘s arrest Sunday morning. However, Bowen says it’s now a “much tougher call” for Philadelphia.
  • SMU WR Courtland Sutton believes the Eagles like him “a lot”: “I think the Eagles like me a lot — I really like the coaching staff, I really like the culture there. I think they’ll only continue to rise.” (College Football 24/7)

Giants

According to Paul Schwartz of the New York Post, it does not appear likely the Giants will take a quarterback at No. 2 overall.

You got to do your due diligence when you’re there at second, if you don’t do to these workouts at No. 2 and you really don’t have an interest in these guys, then you’re tipping your hand,” a source tells Schwartz of the Giants’ pre-draft work on this year’s quarterback prospects.

A national scout tells Schwartz that he believes Penn State RB Saquon Barkley is the guy GM Dave Gettleman has been targeting all along.

“I thought all along this is the guy Dave wants,” said the scout. “And he might get him, if Cleveland is dumb enough not to take him at No. 1.”

  • According to Schwartz, “there is no doubt” N.C. State DE Bradley Chubb is in the mix for the Giants.
  • If the Giants end up moving back a few spots, Schwartz says that Notre Dame G Quenton Nelson would make sense for them.

Redskins

New Redskins QB Alex Smith said last week that he’s looking forward to “getting the ball rolling” for the start of offseason workouts on Monday.

“Looking forward to Monday and getting the ball rolling,” Smith said, via Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post. “It’s all on your own at this point. The onus is on all of us as players to, really, take care of our own business.”

Smith added that it will be good to get to know his new teammates and “lay a foundation to head into training camp.”

“Be myself, get to know my teammates, get familiar with the offense,” Smith said. “You’re trying to lay a foundation to head into training camp with, not only with the offense, but certainly with the guys. Especially with the skill guys. This is the time to take advantage of that. We don’t have pads on. We can do the most this time of year. We can take advantage of these days more than some of the big fellas.

“Just come in and be myself, be a good teammate, get to work.”
