NFC East Rumors: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

  • Per Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News, Cowboys WR Amari Cooper turned down “significantly” more money from the Redskins, who made a late run at Cooper. 
  • ESPN’s Ed Werder said the deal would have put Cooper right there with Falcons WR Julio Jones as the NFL’s highest-paid wide receiver at $22 million a year. 
  • However, after taxes compared to Virginia versus Texas, the deals ended up about the same, according to NBC Sports’ JP Finlay.
  • According to ESPN’s Field Yates, the Cowboys restructured the contracts for RB Ezekiel Elliott and OT La’el Collins.
  • Cooper’s deal included a $10 million signing bonus, a $10 million 2020 base salary and base salaries of $20 million in 2021-2024. (Yates)

Eagles

  • According to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles tried to trade S Malcolm Jenkins before electing to decline his 2020 option. 
  • Eagles OT Jordan Mailata did not have back surgery despite going on injured reserve for the second straight season with issues. He is healthy and ready to compete for the top backup OT slot. (Adam Caplan)
  • Eagles QB Nate Sudfeld‘s deal includes $500,000 guaranteed and $1 million in incentives for a total value of $3 million. (Tom Pelissero)

Giants

  • NorthJersey.com’s Art Stapleton expects the Giants to pivot away from DE Jadeveon Clowney toward the second and third tier of edge rushers. 
  • Pat Leonard says to keep an eye on Patriots free agent C Ted Karras as a possibility for the Giants
  • According to Manish Mehta, the Giants have made it known that they would be interested in having Matt Moore as Daniel Jones’ backup in 2020.
  • Giants FB Eli Penny‘s new deal is for two-years, $2.2 million with $335,000 guaranteed in a 2020 roster bonus. Penny has an $825,000 base salary in 2020 and a $990,000 base in 2021. He also has a $50,000 workout bonus. (Pat Leonard)
  • Giants LB Blake Martinez‘s three-year, $30.75 million deal includes $19 million guaranteed, with base salaries of $4 million guaranteed, $8.125 million, $5 million of which is guaranteed, and $8.425 million. Martinez also has a $10 million roster bonus on March 23, 2020. (Aaron Wilson)

Redskins

  • The Redskins also were involved with the Vikings in a potential trade for WR Stefon Diggs, but weren’t willing to give up the No. 2 overall pick and don’t have a second-round pick this year. (Albert Breer)
