NFC North Notes: Bears, Lions, Packers

Bears

Bears HC Matt Nagy said during a radio interview that he believes the quarterback competition between Mitch Trubisky and Nick Foles will prove to be a “good situation” for the team.

“It’s going to be a good situation for us, and when we talked with Mitch, the excitement and determination and fire he had at knowing that this is going to be an open competition, that’s who he is,” Nagy said, via ChicagoBears.com

Nagy said he expects Trubisky to make the biggest jump of his career.

“Absolutely,” Nagy said, “and I think he would tell you the same thing.

“What I love about him is that he stays positive with that. He’s hungry to get better. But then on our side, too, we need to make sure that we as coaches are putting these guys—not just the quarterbacks but everybody—in the best position possible so that we can be successful.

Lions

  • Mike O’Hara takes a look at five running back prospects who could be of interest to the Lions.
  • Justin Rogers notes that Michigan LB Josh Uche made a strong impression as a relentless pass rusher during Senior Bowl week when the Lions coached him.
  • Matt Bowen can see Uche fitting in with a team like Detroit with the Patriots, Dolphins, and Giants being some other possible landing spots.

Packers

  • Matt Miller mentions the Packers as a team that would make sense for free agent QB Jameis Winston. However, Miller adds that they haven’t been willing to pay well for a backup quarterback.
  • Regarding the idea of Green Bay drafting a quarterback, Miller says it’s a possibility, but it isn’t seen as a major need for them and would be more of a “perfect-world scenario” like when Aaron Rodgers fell to them back in 2005.
  • According to Jordan Reid, the Packers have shown interest in Florida State CB Levonta Taylor.
