NFC North Notes: Bears, Lions, Packers

Bears

  • ESPN’s Matt Bowen says the Bears make sense as a landing spot for former Saints G Larry Warford to further bolster their offensive line.
  • Bears S Tashaun Gipson‘s one-year deal with Chicago is worth $1.05 million with $550,000 guaranteed. (Aaron Wilson)
  • Gipson’s deal is actually worth less than Bears S Deon Bush, who re-signed on a one-year, $1.262 million deal with $637,500 fully guaranteed, but he’s still expected to be the starter for Chicago. (Kevin Fishbain)

Lions

  • ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler thinks a reunion between the Lions and G Larry Warford to solidify a starting guard position makes a lot of sense.
  • ESPN’s Matt Bowen adds the Lions would make sense as a home for Giants LB Markus Golden, who was tendered by the team as an unrestricted free agent, as Detroit still needs some edge-rushing help.

Packers

The Packers will be relying on a number of young players to take steps forward into bigger roles in 2020, including TE Jace Sternberger who projects as the team’s No. 1 option at the position. Green Bay didn’t really bring in any other tight ends this offseason despite Sternberger barely playing as a rookie due to injuries and inexperience, but he still needs to show some of the potential that prompted the Packers to take him in the third round last year to earn the job.

“That’s one thing that we’ve all discussed, that I will have the opportunity for my role to be bigger,” Sternberger said via the Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. “It’s all how I handle it and what I can prove. It goes back to me and this opportunity. I’m just really excited about it, and I’m just definitely ready for it.”

  • ESPN’s Matt Bowen lists the Packers as a strong fit for free-agent WR Taylor Gabriel.
  • ESPN’s Field Yates adds former Lions DT Damon Harrison would make sense as an addition to boost Green Bay’s run defense.
