NFC North Notes: Bears, Lions, Packers, Vikings

Bears

Bears HC Matt Nagy said there were definitely some similarities between third-round pick RB David Montgomery and Kareem Hunt, who Nagy coached with the Chiefs and was also a third-round pick.

“Yeah there are some similarities for sure,” he said via NFL Media’s Kevin Patra. “You look at him and the size of them and you see how they run between the tackles. They’re physical — they run angry, both of them, and I think the other connection is just the background of the coaches they both had too.”

Lions

  • Though former Lions DE Ezekiel Ansah remains unsigned, he’s not an option to come back to Detroit on a one-year, prove-it deal, according to Dave Birkett

Packers

  • According to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the Packers’ trade up to No. 21 for S Darnell Savage turned some heads because the teams picking afterward weren’t looking for a safety.
  • However, Breer adds Savage was more highly thought of around the league than public perception had caught on, and Packer DC Mike Pettine is particular about the players he wants for his defense.
  • Breer mentions a veteran evaluator compared Savage to Rodney McLeod or Antoine Bethea with an ability to play nickel corner.
