NFC North Notes: Bears, Packers, Vikings

Bears

Bears QB Chase Daniel stepped in for an injured Mitch Trubisky and completed 27-of-37 passes for 230 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-16 win over the Lions on Thanksgiving.

“The job of a backup quarterback is to get the starter ready and to be prepared when your opportunity comes,” Daniel said, via ChicagoBears.com. “And I felt like I did that pretty well.

Packers

  • Packers HC Mike McCarthy said that TE Jimmy Graham looked good practicing with his thumb injury: “I thought (practice) went well. He took his normal reps for a Thursday practice. Thought he looked good. He caught the ball fine.
  • Packers DT Mike Daniels said Friday that he didn’t undergo surgery and didn’t break anything in his left ankle/foot. However, he’s sporting a cast and isn’t sure if he’ll be back this season: “Obviously I want to come back as soon as possible, but that’s not realistic. I’m just taking the rehab one day at a time and stepping up my leadership. I couldn’t stand up, that’s when I knew it was pretty serious.” (Rob Demovsky)

Vikings

Vikings OC John DeFilippo was asked about Mike Zimmer’s recent comments that they may have too much volume in their offensive playbook.

Coach and I are in constant communication on how to make this offense better and I’m sure he does that with George with the defense as well,” DeFilippo said, per Courtney Cronin. “There’s certain games you go in with certain amounts of plays, there’s some that you go in with maybe a little bit more because you’re not sure exactly how they’re going to play you. But the key to game planning to me, though, is to have enough in your arsenal to where — because you never know how the game is going to be played. You never know what’s going to go on in the game. We’ve made a conscious effort to really emphasize cutting out all of the gray area that we can. We do that every week, but especially, obviously as we go along here, do that even more.”
