NFC Notes: Cardinals, Cowboys, Rams

Cardinals

Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury said he wasn’t sure whether Kyler Murray‘s AC joint sprain impacted his throwing but could tell that the quarterback was playing through pain.

I thought he competed well throughout the game,” Kingsbury said, via Darren Urban of the team’s official site. “I’ll have to sit down, when we watch the film together, and talk through that. But I thought he played tough, played physical. You could tell he was hurting a bit, but he pushed through it and gave us a chance to win at the end which says a lot about his character and mental toughness.”

Kingsbury added that Cardinals S Jalen Thompson aggravated the same ankle injury that landed him on the injured reserve earlier this season.

“Hopefully it’s not as bad as it was the first time,” Kingsbury said.

Kingsbury mentioned that they are hopeful that Cardinals DL Jordan Phillips (hamstring) will be able to return from injured reserve at some point this season.

“We’re hoping he’ll be back but that hamstring has to heal up,” Kingsbury said.

Cowboys

Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones called RB Ezekiel Elliott the “best football player” on their roster.

“He’s our best football player. He’s our best one. Having said that, we’ve just got to have more chances to expose him to the defense, and we’re going to do that. …In my mind, he’s our best player,” said Jones, via Michael Gehlken of The Athletic.

Rams

  • Rams’ HC Sean McVay is enthusiastic about K Austin MacGinnis but mentions that K Matt Gay will still compete for the kicking job. McVay added that the team will make their decision on who will kick prior to their game on Monday night. (Jourdan Rodrigue)
  • McVay also mentioned how CB Darious Williams was showing promise on the Rams’ scout team back in 2018: “In a good way, he was locking our guys down going back to the 2018 season when he was on the scout team. We’d almost have to tell him, ‘Hey, take it easy, man – you’re going to shake our confidence going into the game!'” (Jourdan Rodrigue)
