NFC Notes: Jaxson Dart, Rashan Gary, Cowboys, Eagles, Giants

Cowboys

Heading into his first year with the Cowboys, DE Rashan Gary is ready to take his game to another level and make strides towards creating a long-lasting legacy in the NFL.

“I’m trying to be great,” Gary said, via Joseph Hoyt of the Dallas Morning News. “That’s my thing. I’m not just here to say I played in the NFL. I want to be a dominant factor. When I hang up my cleats, I want people to say, ‘Man, Rashan Gary was blah, blah, blah,’ whatever the case may be. It’s my legacy. It’s what I’m going to leave my kids. It’s bigger than me now.”

Eagles

The Eagles traded for WR Dontayvion Wicks from the Packers, shortly after hiring Sean Mannion as OC and Ryan Mahaffey as run game coordinator from Green Bay. Wicks spoke on how his existing relationship with those two will help ease his transition to a new team.

“Me and Sean built a relationship just like Coach Mahaffey,” Wicks said, via the team’s website. “Relationships play a big part in things, so I felt like that was a big part of the reason why, you know, the trust for me to be here and for them to bank on me.”

Wicks was handed a one-year, $10.5 million extension, keeping him under team control through 2027. He spoke about what it means to have a team value him that much, and he vowed to do whatever they need and make the most of his opportunities.

“I just want to say I’m blessed to be able to be in this position. It just showed me the value and love that Philly has for me and I want to come out and show what I’m worth.”

“I want to be the best I can be, fill in the void. Whatever the team asks me to do, step up and play that role. I just think of it as capitalizing on my opportunity that’s given to me. We never know what happens throughout the season. Just taking it day by day and keep on working to be the best.”

Giants

Giants HC John Harbaugh feels that QB Jaxson Dart has already displayed the toughness and physicality that the team should be built from.

“His identity starts in the trenches. And that’s what he wants to build the team around; our physicality and our toughness,” Dart said. “I think the biggest change has been the culture. How Harbs establishes camaraderie between the team, the coaching staff, the standard. It’s a different feeling. It’s a refreshing feeling. And I think we’re all really excited.”
