NFC Notes: Saints, Everson Griffen, Vikings

Saints

Saints HC Sean Payton discussed their recent trade for CB Eli Apple by explaining that they think he’ll be able to step in and help them this year.

We felt like it was in our best interest,” Payton said, via NFL.com. “We felt like it was going it help us this year.”

As for their lack of draft picks, Payton believes there will be an opportunity down the road to acquire another pick or two.

We’ll find a way to get a draft pick or two back,” Payton said. “That’s easy to do. So, I’m not concerned to answer your question right now. Obviously, we value the draft picks and we feel like it was an opportunity to make our team better.”

Everson Griffen

Veteran DE Everson Griffen returned to the Vikings on Wednesday after an incident that took place last month and led to him undergoing a mental health evaluation.

“First off, I want to take full responsibility for my actions that went on in September,” Griffen said, per Courtney Cronin. “I had a lot of support from my family, the Minnesota Vikings, the doctors, my teammates, the fans and you know I want to give my apologies to people I impacted. I’m sorry if I affected them in any type of way. I’m just excited to get back here with my team and get back to the grind of things. It’s been hard to be away but I’m happy to be back. It’s a good feeling right now and I’m taking one day at a time and one thing at a time to get things back on track.”

Vikings

  • Tom Pelissero reports that Vikings G Tom Compton is dealing with an MCL sprain and his availability for Sunday’s game against the Saints is in doubt.
  • Vikings could hold RB Dalvin Cook (hamstring) out until Week 11. (NFLTR)
