Saints

  • The NFL and NFLPA are discussing a 2021 salary cap floor of $175 million, which is down from the $198.2 million this year. It’s possible that the figure could be pushed higher, depending on the revenue losses incurred by the league from the 2020 season.
  • Jason Fitzgerald of OverTheCap.com projects the Saints to have -$66,067,833 of cap space next year, assuming the cap is set at $175 million.

Seahawks

  • Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports the Jets and Seahawks started serious trade discussions about S Jamal Adams about a month ago.
  • Mehta adds the framework for the deal was in place about five days ago, while the two sides waited for a little more clarity about the future of the salary cap.
  • Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Adams will fly to Seattle Monday and hopefully undergo a physical the same day. His goal of becoming the NFL’s highest-paid safety has not changed.

Vikings

Vikings GM Rick Spielman said they are “very excited” to finalize a three-year contract extension with HC Mike Zimmer.

“Very excited that we’re able to reach a contract extension with Coach Zimmer. Everywhere he’s been, he’s been a winner,” said Spielman, via Chris Tomasson.

Regarding why a deal took this long to finalize, Zimmer said he was working out the details with the Vikings while the pandemic added uncertainty to their situation.

“Sometimes it just takes a while to work out details on contracts,” said Zimmer, via Tomasson.

As for the possibility of re-signing free agent DE Everson Griffen, Zimmer said he would love for the veteran to return.

“I’d love to have him back. He’s always been one of my guys. If that happens, it would be great. But I don’t know where that’s at right now,” said Zimmer, via Tomasson
