NFC South Notes: Buccaneers, Falcons, Panthers

Buccaneers

Buccaneers QB Jameis Winston has high expectations for TE O.J. Howard as he enters his third season.

โ€œThe skyโ€™s the limit really, not even the sky โ€” probably the moon,โ€ Winston said via Mark Cook of Pewter Report. โ€œWhy limit him there? This guy, heโ€™s incredible. He and Cam [Brate] really complement each other well. I think O.J. can learn a lot of things from Cam. I believe having both of those guys is going to make our offense go to the top.

โ€œYou canโ€™t really stop O.J. from doing anything. Heโ€™s going to blow you off the ball with blocking. Heโ€™ll run past you and stiff arm you. I know heโ€™s going to have a great season and Lord willing, heโ€™s going to stay healthy and make it to the Pro Bowl like he was before he got injured.โ€

  • Kentucky CB Lonnie Johnson visited the Buccaneers on Tuesday. (Greg Auman)
  • Baylor WR Jalen Hurd will visit with the Buccaneers. (Jenna Laine)
  • Clemson DT Dexter Lawrence will visit the Buccaneers. (Laine)
  • The Buccaneers announced they hired Larry Rose as an officiating and replay consultant. Rose was an NFL side judge from 1997-2013.

Falcons

Panthers

Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey said if heโ€™s asked to play 90-plus percent of the offensive snaps again, he has no problem with it.

โ€œI played in every game last year, felt great,โ€ McCaffrey said via ESPNโ€™s David Newton. โ€œI can do it again. I feel I can do it over the next many years. โ€ฆ I would definitely like the ball as much as possible. โ€ฆ Thatโ€™s why I train.โ€

  • According to Ian Rapoport, the Panthers have spent โ€œconsiderable timeโ€ with West Virginia QB Will Grier
