NFC West Notes: 49ers, Rams, Seahawks

49ers

  • Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports that people around the NFL believe the 49ers could be planning to do something other than select Ohio State DE Nick Bosa with No. 2 overall, given how the team has allowed the perception to exist that they’re likely to take Bosa without challenging it.
  • Florio wonders if the 49ers make actually be interested in Alabama DL Quinnen Williams, who has a decent amount of support for being the best prospect in this year’s draft class.
  • Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports lists the 49ers’ top-9 positions of need in the 2019 NFL Draft as edge rusher, wide receiver, safety, cornerback, offensive line, outside linebacker, tight end, punter, and kicker.

Rams

Rams QB Jared Goff, who is entering the final year of his four-year rookie contract, said he is not concerned about an extension and is confident the situation will “work itself out.”

Not on my mind at all,” said Goff, via Gary Klein of The Athletic. “I know the deal and understand that I hired an agent for that reason, and things always work out. You continue to play well, it will work itself out.”

Klein expects the Rams to pick up Goff’s fifth-year option for the 2020 season, which will give Goff over $20 million guaranteed.

Seahawks

Seahawks GM John Schneider said not having a second-round pick is a “challenge” but is confident with his team’s scouting department.

It’s a challenge,” Schneider said, via Gregg Bell of The News Tribune. “But it’s exciting. It’s what we do. Our guys do a great job on draft of working our relationships around the league and then we’re trying to navigate where we’re going throughout the draft and targeting players and moving along.”

Schneider added that the Seahawks “don’t necessarily” have to trade down in the 2019 NFL Draft, but negotiating deals is “kind of fun.”

We don’t necessarily have to go (trade) down all the time. But it’s kind of fun.”
