NFC West Rumors: 49ers, Cardinals, Josh Rosen

49ers

  • Albert Breer wonders if the 49ers could be a fit for Giants free agent S Landon Collins
  • Jay Glazer expects 49ers GM John Lynch to be open to trading down from No. 2 overall.
  • However, Glazer mentions that San Francisco was aggressively looking for a pass rusher last year and even made calls to teams about players unlikely to be available just to see if there was a deal to be made.

Josh Rosen

Cardinals’ veteran WR Larry Fitzgerald said it is difficult to evaluate QB Josh Rosen after his first year since he had poor offensive line protection last season.

If youโ€™re a quarterback and you canโ€™t stay on your feet, itโ€™s very difficult to make a throw, let alone to be able to evaluate you,” Fitzgerald said, via Darren Urban of the team’s official site. “Weโ€™ve got to get guys healthy and be able to protect him and weโ€™ve got to make some plays around him.โ€

  • Jay Glazer says he isn’t fully convinced right now that the Cardinals are set on taking Kyler Murray No. 1 overall and mentions that half of the stuff you hear between now and April is likely coming from other teams who are either trying to screw with the Cardinals or are trying to get Murray to drop.
  • According to Glazer, several teams believe Murray is still the Cardinals target at No. 1 overall, but Arizona likely wants to keep the smokescreen going in the hope that teams call about a trade for Josh Rosen
  • Jason La Canfora mentioned Thursday that “worst kept secret in the history of the world” that the Cardinals will take Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall pick: “I am thoroughly convinced [the Cardinals] are taking Kyler Murray first overall…they will be trading Josh Rosen.”
  • According to La Canfora, the Cardinal could end up trading Rosen to the Redskins for a third-round pick: “Rosen for a [3rd round pick] to Washington, that’s what I figure is going to happen sometime in the next six weeks.”

Cardinals

  • Tony Pauline of DraftAnalyst.com reports that the Cardinals are expected to try to trade DL Robert Nkemdiche before possibly releasing him outright. Pauline says if Nkemdiche is traded, it would likely be for a conditional pick.
  • Pauline confirms that the Cardinals are expected to make a “big push” to sign Ravens ILB C.J. Mosley.
