NFL Increasing Practice Squads To 16 Players

According to Mark Maske, NFL owners agreed to increase practice squads to 16 players for the 2020 season on Friday.

Maske adds that teams can protect four players on the practice squad from other teams on a weekly basis.

The NFL has already agreed to increase practice squads from 10 to 12 as part of the new CBA. However, the league has been mulling further increases to taxi squads in order to give more flexibility midseason as they try to manage potential positive tests.

The current plan was for game-day active roster will increase from 46 to 48 players with one of these players being an offensive lineman. The new CBA is set to expand practice squads to 12 in 2020 and 2021 and to 14 starting in 2022.

Beyond that, practice squad salaries will increase to a minimum of $8,000 per week. From there, salaries are set to increase to $11,500 by 2022
